About The Children's Room Nursery Swansea

Based in Uplands, Swansea, the Children's Room is a privately run Montessori school; the first South Wales nursery school run according to the unique child-centred Montessori approach to early education.

This Swansea nursery school, founded by Liz Byatt, brings over 20 years experience in nursery education and Montessori principles to the school.

'Little children between three and six are years of age have a special psychology. They are full of love. They are only without love if they are ill treated. If they are badly treated their real nature is altered. They are full of love themselves and need to be loved in order to grow.'

Maria Montessori 1989

'The child who concentrates is immensely happy; he ignores his neighbours or the visitors circulating about him. Fort he time being is spirit is like that of a hermit in the desert; a new consciousness has been born in him that of his own individuality.'

Maria Montessori 1947

Located in the peaceful environment of St James Gardens, the Children's room has a higher teacher-to-child ratio than many other nurseries and can offer provision through the medium of Welsh. Liz has seen the success of the Montessori method across the world and has worked in schools in London and the Far East, working in a Montessori school in Singapore for two years. Bringing these principles back home to Wales is a dream she has now realised.

Developed by Dr Maria Montessori, the Montessori educational approach places emphasis on allowing children to achieve their full potential by developing the whole child intellectually, socially, physically, emotionally, linguistically and spiritually. The aim at the nursery is to give every child the opportunity to do this.

The Children's Room

By providing the right environment, the Children's room will concentrate on the goal of holistically developing the social and emotional intelligence of the child. Therefore it is not a play-group type of environment but one that prepares the children for the challenges of the future.

  • The first Montessori school in South Wales
  • Drop off service to local schools offered
  • High teacher to child ratio
  • Welsh provision
  • The Montessori method develops the whole child, mentally, emotionally and holistically

With a brand new dedicated baby room (Open September 1st) the Children's Room takes both babies from 3 months to children aged 5.

The school is open 8:30am to 5:30pm during term time. Some children who just do the morning session like to stay for lunch and go home at 1pm.

From September 2011 we will be open 48 weeks of the year, closed one week at Easter, one week at Christmas and two weeks in August.  Parents have the option of choosing term time only.

Due to the high standards that need to be maintained, the nursery will cater for no more than 22 children at any one time. There is a minimum attendance of two sessions a week. Please call to discuss places and fees.

Today, the importance of excellent nursery provision has finally been recognised at Government level and the Montessori method is very much at the forefront of current educational thinking.

Dear Liz, I would like to thank you and your brilliant girls for making Llew feel so happy and at home at your nursery. They are so caring and wonderful. I never thought he would settle so quickly. It is a great comfort that he is content. A special thank you to Cath and Jo whom Llew is very fond of.   Love and blessings, Rita Robinson
